It’s a new year and that means that all of the 2019 Colors of the Year are out! Let’s take a look at just a few of them and see how you may or may not want to use them in your home or business this year.
Living Coral
Not the first one that comes out but perhaps the most widely publicized is by PANTONE®, the worldwide standard for color communication and inspiration since 1963. For 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product, packaging, and graphic design.
The Pantone® Color of the Year for 2019 is Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral, “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”
It is a beautiful shade of coral that would look lovely as a pop of color on an accent wall, maybe a front door, or a back wall of a built-in. It would be a bit overpowering though on all walls of a room.
Cavern Clay
Sherwin-Williams®, an industry leader in the development of technologically advanced paint and coatings for 150 years, came out with their choice back in September and it is a decidedly more muted color than Pantone selected. The SW 2019 Color of the Year is a warm terracotta color called Cavern Clay SW 7701.
Cavern Clay is a warm, earthy hue that is both casual and refined. It can be the backdrop of a welcoming dining room or kitchen, and it pairs nicely with wood grains and leather.
It is an easy way to bring the warmth of the outdoors in. Beaches, canyons and deserts, and sun-washed late summer afternoon are all of this embodied in this one color.
Sherwin-Williams also offers colors that pair well with Cavern Clay to keep you on trend if you are doing decorating.
Metropolitan
Also choosing a more muted tone is Benjamin Moore®, North America’s favorite paint, color and coatings brand since 1883 with over 3500 colors. In October, Benjamin Moore named Metropolitan AF-690, a stylish gray with cool undertones, as their 2019 Color of the Year.
Metropolitan AF-690 is elegant, calming and stylish. It works as a neutral but one that can really stand out and make a statement at the same time.
In addition to their Color of the Year, Benjamin Moore takes it a step further and offers up a Color Trends Palette for 2019 that supports Metropolitan AF-690 with a coordinating palette of 15 harmonious hues. The colors they chose are Putnam Ivory HC-39, Balboa Mist OC-27, Kendall Charcoal HC-166, Smoke 2122-40, Black Pepper 2130-40, Soft Fern 2144-40, Cloud White OC-130, Beau Green 2054-20, Metropolitan AF-690, Hale Navy HC-154, Head Over Heels AF-250, Kona AF-165, Decorator’s White OC-149, Pashmina AF-100, and Hunter Green 2041-10.
